Photoassist 1 Day Introduction to Assisting Course
The day is aimed at those looking to get into assisting as an entry to professional photography as well as giving recently started assistants a chance to brush up their skills.
9.30.-11am
An introduction to assisting - why be an assistant and what does it involve? Briefly followed by a look at different film-based camera systems, making sure everyone familiarises themselves with loading film in 120mm and 5x4 systems.
11-11.30am

11.30 am-1pm
Introduction to lighting. To include hands-on demonstrations of different lighting systems, both flash and constant lighting. Overview of manipulation and control of light, including balancing different colour temperatures, differences between soft and hard light, and use of diffusers and reflectors. Practising setting up and using the lights by shooting portraits in teams.
1-2pm
Lunch and photography chat!
2-3.30pm
An introduction to the role of the digital assistant, including an overview of the importance of system profiling. Digital workflow with different 35mm and medium format digital systems and different RAW file processing packages. We'll be working with Adobe Lightroom to process out the files shot in the morning.
3.30-4pm
Tea/Coffee Break
4-5pm
The business of assisting. Finding work. What is expected of you and what to expect. The things you need to know but no-one ever tells you… And making the break from assisting into photography.
...followed by a drink in the pub round the corner for anyone interested.
