When I graduated from Reading University, my career counselor gave me what I consider to be some pretty bad advice: "Just get any job, and figure the rest out later." While I think I could have gained good transferrable skills and on-the-job experience anywhere, I wanted to make sure my first step gave me opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and useful hands on experience with the medium, and I have had an amazing 10 years, I'm now just returned from Shanghai, looking for my next opportunity to learn new skills and get great shots no matter what! My portfolio has been taken from a range of photographic opportunities I've been afforded over the years, from fashion, glamour, portraiture through to interior, product and reproduction.
